Spanish biotech start-up REGEMAT3D has been ranked among the top five companies in the industry. The company aims to develop bioproduction by popularising bioprinting.
The team specializes in the production of human tissues such as skin and cartilage. For this purpose, they have developed a special bioreactor, in which a scaffold is placed, on which cells are gradually formed until the ideal time for their transplantation into the human body.
The company is working on regenerating the retina, spinal cord, and knee cartilage tissue. So far, the research team has worked with universities and laboratories but plans are underway to expand production and provide equipment to companies and industries.
The dynamics of the modern world determine the relevance of biotechnology not only in the field of regenerative medicine but also in cosmetics (for the development of alternative, vegan methods of testing) and the pharmaceutical industry, for example, 3D-bioprinting of drugs is gaining popularity, which is extremely important for personalized medicine (changing the size of pills, as well as the shape and method of release of the active substances in the medicine).
Bioproduction technology is now very relevant and in demand. In the future, the team plans to use their equipment to regenerate not only individual tissues but also organs.
